Wasting Money on The Domain Name Appraisal Lottery

As you may know there are many companies out there promising to give you an accurate idea of the value of your domain name.

I have used a few of these services myself and have always wondered about the accuracy. In the real estate business an appraisal is the final word on value. It is arrived at by complex mathematical formulas by folks who have had years of intensive training.

Unfortunately, the domain name appraisal services seem to be based more on guesswork and speculation, rather than scientific formulas.

You are most likely wasting your money if you use them ( as I have).

As evidence I offer the below.

You should know about a very interesting experiment that SitePoint.com recently conducted.

What they decided to do is conduct the very first industry-wide domain name appraisal comparison to see just how accurate these services are.

Lee Hodgson who conducted the comparison submitted the domain name LiquidTrading.com to 15 different domain name appraisal services. The results they got back where surprising to say the least.

The highest valuation for the domain name pecked its value at $160,000 while the lowest said the domain name was worth just $200.
